Trendy Toronto restaurant closes permanently and will soon be replaced

A Toronto restaurant that was once a hotspot in the city to see and be seen has reached the end of the road, closing down permanently as its owners prepare to turn it into something new.

Nearly four years after opening the doors of its sublime King West space — which, prior to that, had been home to controversial restaurant and tavern Weslodge — in the summer of 2021, swanky seafood spot, Pink Sky, has officially closed for good.

Serving up the likes of heaping seafood towers, indulgent lobster mac and cheese, lobster rolls and salmon crudo, the restaurant, which is owned by INK Entertainment, the people behind other popular spots like Akira Black, Kost, Ultra and Daphne, was an instant hit among the King West crowd upon opening in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Instituting a sea-to-fork approach in a city that's decidedly distant from either coast, Pink Sky's fresh ingredients and refreshingly contemporary interiors have, in a relatively short time, solidified it as a major player in the area — but that reign has suddenly come to a close.

Taking to their Instagram account on Jan. 2, 2025, the team behind Pink Sky confirms the restaurant is officially closed for good — but the space it leaves behind won't be empty for long.

"We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to our incredible guests and team for making Pink Sky a cherished part of the King West community," reads the caption of the post, which confirms the restaurant is closed as of Jan. 2.

Despite the sincere farewells, though, the restaurant is remaining within the INK Entertainment family, and will be transformed into a "progressive cocktail bar," headed up by Vela owner Robin Goodfellow and Chef Stuart Cameron, who has most recently been whipping up magic in the kitchen at Prince Edward County's Bocado.

While the finer details, including the name and concept behind the new spot, as well as when it'll open to the public, are under wraps for now, King West frequenters and those in the market for a new go-to alike can rest easy knowing there'll soon be a new spot to try out in the near future.

Pink Sky was located at 480 King West.
