Toronto Maple Leafs' Max Domi latest athlete to endorse controversial amulet
You can count Toronto Maple Leafs forward Max Domi as the latest ambassador of the controversial Aires Tech amulet.
Back in October, former Leafs captain John Tavares was spotted with a rather interesting endorsement deal, which caused him to be the butt of internet jokes for a few days.
Washington Post writer Will Sommer shared a video on X of English actor and comedian Russell Brand, who was spotted endorsing a "magical amulet" from Aires Tech. According to Brand, the amulet supposedly has the power to protect its wearers from "corruptible and corrupting" signals such as those emitted by phones and WiFi routers.
The World Health Organization currently states that "no adverse health effect has been causally linked with exposure to wireless technologies."
Tavares and Toronto Raptors forward RJ Barrett were listed on the company's website as users of the product, though it was Tavares who ended up getting the brunt of the online jokes from people who didn't really have much faith in the amulet's powers.
Speaking to Tavares in an Instagram video uploaded to the Aires Tech account and collabed with his personal one, Domi explained why he'd partnered with the company, stating that he'd used their products for five to six years.
"For Max, staying connected isn't just a convenience; it's essential," the video description reads. "Managing his Type 1 diabetes makes his phone a medical necessity, and Aires gives him the peace of mind to protect his health and stay game-ready."
While Tavares was seen with the wearable version of the product, Domi showed off one that he puts on his phone and in his locker, with the company offering a few different variations of their product, with a price range starting at $89.95 for the smallest one.
"EMFs are something that I do believe are an issue and have to be looked at and monitored… I have to have my phone on me, there's no question about that. I have a little pack that goes on [my phone], that's helping me in any way it possibly can," Domi said in the video.
"I do wear a necklace sometimes… It's something that as soon as I started doing it, I felt better… this is a product that I tried and felt a big difference right away."
