Ex-Raptors star Pascal Siakam surprises hundreds of Toronto students

Pascal Siakam might no longer play for the Toronto Raptors, but his feelings for the city have remained unchanged.

Now a member of the Indiana Pacers after a midseason trade nearly a year ago, Siakam and his new team are visiting Toronto for the fourth time since last year's blockbuster deal.

And on Monday, Siakam surprised a group of students at an event that had taken part in the Data Dunkers program run through his PS43 foundation, which helps to teach students "foundational data science skills through basketball statistics in a fun and inclusive environment," as per its description.

With the students gathered at the Humber College campus basketball court, Siakam was introduced to a raucous round of applause.

"Any time I come to Toronto, any activation I can do, or anything foundation related, I'm always up for it," Siakam said in a video he posted to X.

"We always know that technology is the next big thing, and knowing certain communities, just not having the resources, it's finding different skills that the kids can learn [through the program]. I think you make time for things that are important. No matter how tired you are, no matter what's happening, I think you can always find time to touch into the community."

Siakam spent his first six-and-a-half years in the NBA in the Toronto organization. He made two All-Star teams, won the NBA's Most Improved Player award in 2018-19, and was a key piece of the 2019 NBA title-winning roster.

But throughout his whole time in Toronto, charity work has been a key part of Siakam's personality, launching his foundation in 2021. Back in 2022, Siakam handed out hundreds of laptops in Toronto's Regent Park neighbourhood, as part of his "Coding For Champions" initiative along with the Canadian organization Penny Appeal.

Siakam and the Pacers face off against the Raptors tonight at Scotiabank Arena, with opening tipoff set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
