Andrew Witty

CEO, UnitedHealth Group

There’s no denying Andrew Witty’s influence over the future of health care: Not only is he the head of the biggest insurer in the U.S., but he has also presided over the growth of UnitedHealth into one of the country’s largest providers of outpatient care, employing or affiliated with almost 10% of all U.S. physicians. That means Witty is often in the spotlight, whether navigating the controversy from STAT’s investigative reporting on a United subsidiary’s use of algorithms to deny or cut off care to Medicare patients or making predictions about how seniors’ rising use of medical care could impact future earnings for United and other insurers. He also recently commented on the timely issue of how the high cost of GLP-1 drugs is limiting access. “We’re struggling, and frankly our clients are struggling, with the list prices which have been demanded of these products in the U.S.,” he said.
