Akila Muthukumar Valliammai was a summer news intern at STAT supported by the Harvard Institute of Politics and Global Health Institute. A rising senior studying human developmental and regenerative biology with a minor in English, she aspires to practice medicine one day. She is an associate magazine editor at The Harvard Crimson where she has written about issues ranging from food insecurity among graduate students to Cambridge's overdose crisis. In her free time, you might find her working in theater tech or frequenting bagel shops.
