Jeremy Farrar

Chief scientist, World Health Organization

Since stepping down as director of the Wellcome Trust to become chief scientist at the World Health Organization in 2023, trained neurologist and public health expert Jeremy Farrar has been charged with helping to steer the United Nations’ member countries through the later stages of the Covid-19 pandemic while preparing for the possibility of other future outbreaks and tackling issues like the health effects of climate change and the growing health care worker shortage. All that will require greater global cooperation, he said this year: “The issues that affect one country are increasingly going to affect every country.”
