A leading researcher in the field of AI-based medical imaging analysis, Judy Gichoya’s work emphasizes identifying and eliminating bias. The Healthcare Innovation and Translation Informatics (HITI) lab, which she co-directs at Emory, is spreading its impact well beyond the university by building and curating diverse imaging datasets with an emphasis on Black representation that it makes available to other researchers. This year, Gichoya also organized a datathon to bring together international AI researchers, with a focus on identifying and preventing bias in image-based AI algorithms.
